Kite festival gets good response, theme pavilion of Swarnim Gujarat also inaugurated

Uttarayan is still some days away but the city sky was dotted with kites of various shapes and sizes on Sunday as thousands thronged to the Sabarmati riverfront for the kite festival. Kites of various size, type, shape and colour could be found at the event as the festival, which was thrown open on Sunday, drew kite-designers and flyers from various cities of India and across the world.
The chairman of Gujarat Tourism Development Corporation Kamlesh Patel inaugurated the kite festival. Around 105 kite flyers from 34 countries including Australia, Belgium, Turkey, and Switzerland are participating in the event.
Moreover, the festival has also witnessed participation from nine states of the country including Punjab and Haryana. The tourism minister of Gujarat, Jaynarayan Vyas inaugurated a theme pavilion of Swarnim Gujarat celebrations. The pavilion showcases the achievements made by the state in each decade. Meanwhile, the visitors were enchanted by the variety of kites and the skills of the kite flyers.
Aslam, a kite flyer from Ahmedabad, bewitched the audience with his skill of flying 110 kites on one string, while Carlo Pitonzo from Switzerland showed of his skills by flying three kites simultaneously. But the wind played spoilsport during the latter half of the day which left many kite flyers a bit disappointed. "In the morning I flew three kites at one go, but in the afternoon as the wind weakened I could fly only two kites," said Pitonzo.
